Jerry Shulman, professional photographer for calendars and magazines, has kindly let us show these shots of the Leia-Fire litter. They are copyrighted and not for anyone else's use. Several are of pups on a big game safari. The pups are 6 1/2 weeks here and you will see they are retrieving naturally. The camera shoots at up to 10 shots per second so what appears to be a still shot is often a pup flying at full tilt dragging his game. On several, if you look closely, you can see 3 legs are off the ground.

You will hear field people talking of the necessity of training their hunting dogs to retrieve and/or point. They may use an ear pinch or electric collar and spend many months or send them to a professional trainer for months. Well bred Vizslas both point and retrieve naturally from the time they are 6 or 7 weeks old as you see above.

We breed for the versatile Vizsla.

Welcome to Piroska Vizslas, located on Vancouver Island at Yellow Point - 5 miles south of Nanaimo and 60 miles north of Victoria in beautiful British Columbia, Canada.

The Hungarian Vizsla, is a member of the Sporting Group. It is a highly intelligent, affectionate and sensitive pointer-retriever. They are excellent hunting dogs, comfortable on land and in the water. The Vizsla is a beautiful golden rust in color and attracts a lot of attention. Contact your closest Vizsla Club, talk to Vizsla owners, and meet several Vizslas before deciding this is the breed to bring into your home, as the house is where it will be.

Because Vizslas are so highly energetic they require daily off-leash exercise, but when they come into the house, watch out, as it is snuggle on the couch time!! They are demonstratively generous with their love and devotion and strive to please their family. Be sure that you are prepared to own a dog that will be an extremely close family member. You may need to change your routines to accommodate this energetic love-sponge that will want to share your time and energy.

At Piroska Vizslas we breed for temperament, health, show, obedience, field and agility - in other words - for Versatility! We are proud to have had 5 of our Vizslas receive the Vizsla Society of Ontario's Tibor Reiter Versatile Vizsla award in the last 7 years.

As with all puppies, Vizsla puppies are fun but time consuming - just like adding a new baby to your household.

The Canadian Kennel Club's "Dog's Annual" is a wealth of information for new puppy buyers/owners. There are many books available in bookstores or to be borrowed from the Public Library. Good breeders are always more than helpful to offer advice, suggestions, and support and aim to produce only the best. A well-bred puppy, with good health and intelligence, is a delight to own for a lifetime.

Stay in touch with your breeder, who will offer lifetime help and support. Please beware of puppy mills, or backyard breeders.

Living with a Vizsla is a never-ending source of love and happiness. Guard it carefully and tenderly and the rewards are tenfold.
